Michael: Toy Story

Four hurt in traffic accident as racing car ploughs into toy meeting! Doctors said that Duck was in a serious but stable condition, and that Mickey Mouse and Mr Playmobil were hurt but responding well. The letter W escaped with minor injuries and was allowed to return to the alphabet after treatment.

Our on-the-spot reporter sent in this picture of the scene immediately after the accident.

Michael: Chrysanthemums, probably

Two hours to draw three-and-a-half chrysanthemums? Where does the time go?

Actually, some of it was spent deciding whether these were chrysanthemums. Or dahlias. Or Michaelmas daisies.

Chrysanthemums

Ink on watercolour paper, 20 x 20 cm approx.

Vin Rouge

Managed to do a print using only two colours*. It's hard work trying to recognise that you don't need to capture every nuance of shade and light, or record every detail of the subject. Sometimes, the image is stronger for what you leave out. They say drawing is just learning to see; perhaps it's also learning not to see.

*Arguably, it's three colours, because the white of the paper is an important part of the design.

Vin Rouge

Two stage reduction linocut, 10 x 10cm. With apologies for the punning title.
