Karen - Portrait

First session for me! Lovely group of people who were all very welcoming.Attempted a new portrait, started off with graphite drawing on tinted canvas

Then added lights and darks with charcoal and white chalk
Then more washes of colour with some background colour.

And more colour with a bit of sanding back, not what I intended doing at all! an experiment that didn't really work! Next time I will try a different approach, more accurate initial drawing and some underpainting.

Michael: New linocut

First stage of a new linocut.

City linocut

It took about eight hours to draw and cut this first layer. Then I printed it in a pale blue to dark grey gradient. (Yes, grey; this is a bad photograph.)

At this stage, the print looks very much like the London linocut. Perhaps that's inevitable with cityscapes: you get blue at the top for the sky; grey at the bottom for the road; and a confusion of building in the middle.

Michael: Toy Story

Four hurt in traffic accident as racing car ploughs into toy meeting! Doctors said that Duck was in a serious but stable condition, and that Mickey Mouse and Mr Playmobil were hurt but responding well. The letter W escaped with minor injuries and was allowed to return to the alphabet after treatment.

Our on-the-spot reporter sent in this picture of the scene immediately after the accident.

Toy story

Ink and watercolour on paper, approx 10 x 8 in.

Sheri - latest portrait

It's been a long time since I posted anything. For the last three LRG sessions at least I've been painting a portrait which I couldn't really show - a birthday present for someone. So, now that she's received it, and loves it, here it is... the latest portrait.

I've just been told about a new website for Sussex artists... the Sussex Artists Network, http://www.sussexartistsnetwork.net/.

It's very new, so time will tell if it proves to be useful. I'll keep you posted! Check it out.
